Childhood Autism Rating Scale

Age Range:2 - 11 years

Administration:Individual

Timings:5 - 10 minutes

A behaviour rating scale that helps to identify children with autism and distinguish them from developmentally delayed children who are not autistic.
Childhood Autism Rating Scale helps diagnose autism by observing characteristics such as ability and behaviour. A 7-point Scale is used to indicate the degree to which a child's behaviour deviates from a 'normal' child of the same age.

After a child has been rated on each item, a total score is calculated by counting the individual ratings. Children who score above a given point are categorised as autistic. Scores falling within the autistic range can be divided into two categories - mild-to-moderate and severe autism.

  • A diagnostic assessment of autism
  • Reliable as it has been developed over 15-years, with observation of more than 1,500 cases
  • Provides quantifiable ratings based on direct behaviour observations of children
